About Barbara Elaine Singer
Born in 1961 in Denver, PA, a small rural town in Lancaster County, Barbara graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Hotel Management. After college she moved to Orlando, Florida and worked for Hyatt Hotels, Trammell Crow Management and Club Corp. Life as a busy sales executive, wife and mother seemed smooth until her life circumstances took a dramatic turn. She fell in love again, divorced but before she and her fiancé could get married he died of a sudden heart attack. Facing an empty nest—her only child, her daughter was leaving for college, and what now felt like an empty life, Barbara knew she needed to make a change but was uncertain of what she truly wanted her life to become. As a start, she and her father, who had always wanted to visit Alaska, to travel across the country with her in his camper. The experiences they had and the people they met as they drove across the country were eye opening and gave her new perspectives on what life could be.
After that trip ended Barbara moved to a small fishing village where she learned to sail with the help of a friend, Captain Pete. Three months of island hopping in the Caribbean solidified her future and off she flew to Tuscany, to pursue her life-long dream of living in Italy and begin her new life. Now she lives in the picturesque town of Chianti eight months of the year (April-November) and returns to the states four months every year (December-March.) She chronicles her inspirational journey of life reinvention in her soon-to-be released second edition of Living Without Reservations: a Journey by Land and Sea in Search of Happiness (Publication date January, 2012).
A three-time marathon runner and two-time Ironman tri-athlete, Barbara also is a life-coach. Her unique coaching style includes in-depth questionnaires and assignments as well as hour-long counseling sessions for individuals likewise in search of a better life. Workshops are given throughout the country when she is in the States.
Barbara is also an experienced and engaging public speaker and seminar leader who shares her story in workshops throughout the U.S. She is particularly passionate about the subject of life reinvention including pro-actively turning a mid-life crisis into a midlife triumph, how to travel anywhere on a tight budget, how to live abroad inexpensively, how to overcome empty-nest syndrome and many other life challenges.
